Ok, here goes. I’m terrified, and have next to no clue what I’m doing, but I’m doing it anyway!
Hi there, and welcome to my brand new, shiny blog, Nashville Belle. My name is Elisa, and I will be your hostess for this lifestyle and DIY, decor, home improvement, blog, mindless musing and anything else I can think of (at least until someone tells me how clueless I am and I retreat with my tail between my legs to wallow in misery) JUST KIDDING……!
Today’s post is basically a get to know me sort of thing since this is brand new and I am still figuring out how all this works.
This is me:
Hamming it up for the camera in one of my favorite hats and an antique Edwardian blouse.
I am 50-ish, married, and a native Nashvillian. Except for a very brief year of graduate school, I have lived all my life in Music City and can’t think of anywhere else I would want to call home. I have a degree in vocal performance (opera) and love going to the opera any chance I can get. I am a closet Whovian and a University of Alabama (ROLL TIDE!) fan. I love antiquing, old classic movies, ballroom dancing and Glenn Miller.
My wonderful hubby of over 20 years, is also a native Tennessean. We are the proud (and frequently exasperated) parents of 3 fur-babies; 2 cats and a hyper-psycho, insane dog named Fred.
Hyper-psycho Fred – trying his best to look innocent.
Don’t believe it for a minute!
Pepper and Sully curled up together, being lazy.
Does anyone besides us count their pets as children?
This is Mr. Belle and me:
At Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga. It was a Saturday, we had some free time, so we just took off for the day. We are a bit loony like that!
Mr. Belle has a HUGE train hobby. Modeling them, photographing them, chasing them, he loves it all. Let’s not even mention his obsession with Dr Enuf (that green bottle he is showing off in his hand).
Our courtship went a bit like this:
Picture the scene: he is driving down a very narrow dirt road, next to a railroad, while at the same time holding a camera trying to photograph a moving train. All of this is occurring at around 45mph. I’m in the passenger seat hanging on for dear life, praying that I won’t be the “lead because it bleeds’ story on the 6:00 o’clock news. In a fit of self-preservation I blurt out “You drive! Give me the camera!” He claims that is the moment he fell in love with me. (I may just put that on my tombstone, LOL) Life may be crazy, but it is certainly never boring.
We live in a suburb of Nashville called Hermitage. We are actually very close to the home of former President Andrew Jackson from which our suburb gets its name.
We were able to buy our home in July of 2013 at a very advantageous time in the market. Since then we’ve had a few ups and downs but I think things have finally settled to the point that I can really start putting the time into fixing the place up the way I want.
I have a dream for my home. Right now, even four years after moving in, it is still a hodge podge of furniture and décor from other places we lived, hand me downs (not necessarily a bad thing) and, let’s be honest here….junk. My dream, for years now, has been to create a more restful, elegant, more pulled together look. It doesn’t have to look like a magazine layout, but at least let it be cohesive. I want it to be a haven and retreat for Mr. Belle and I.
Mr. Belle, is not much into DIY (unless it involves a model train layout, LOL), so I’ll being doing most of this on my own. Needing incentive, I’ve started this blog. Since I tend to work VERY slowly, I will fill in the time by telling ya’ll all about my wonderful hometown. Nashville is such an incredible place and it just keeps getting better.
So, pour yourself a tall glass of sweet tea, pull up a comfy chair and come sit a spell. Welcome to Nashville Belle!
