The images coming from Houston are heartbreaking.
Tens of thousands of homes, completely destroyed. Hundreds of thousands left homeless. Businesses gone. An economy in ruins.
Mercifully, the loss of life has been low, although one life lost is too many.
We have all grieved with our neighbors in Houston.
However, Americans are always at their best when called to serve. Millions have answered the call to help. Many just sending money or supplies to the Houston area but thousands have contributed their own time and resources.
The Cajun Navy, a group of private citizens with boats from Louisiana, mobilized immediately to help assist the Coast Guard with search and rescue.
Volunteers from all over the country have flocked to the Houston area. Neighbors are helping neighbors. Strangers helping strangers. All of them asking, “How can I help?”
We help each other. We lift each other up. We take care of each other.
This is America at its best.
