We stayed indoors this weekend. Now, I was supposed to be working on finishing the tub in the full bath. Nope. Didn’t happen. It has been HOT down South lately. As in, hot, sultry, stuffy, yucky, miserable, hot. Even Fred the Dog is sticking close to the air conditioning lately.
So, to pass the time this weekend, (since I couldn’t get to Haven this year, (*pout*)) I decided, in between fighting heat induced migraines, I would do a bit of daydreaming (read planning) for my next room makeover.
Say hello to my master bedroom half bath:
It’s a dungeon:
Not a very pretty one at that.
Yep. Not much to look at. When we initially bought the house I liked the cabinets because of how much storage they gave us. And admittedly they are better than average cabinets. Unfortunately, they are way too big for that tiny space. It really makes it feel like a cave.
I have always hated the paint color on the walls as well. It is more of a yellowish beige than it is off white and those blinds on the window have got to go. Not to mention the mismatched, one white, one bent steel, towel bars.
So. Just generally, bleh.
So, exactly what do I what? Weeeelllll…..here is my inspiration:
Jamie at So Much Better With Age did this absolutely divine Black, White and French Powder Room Makeover that I have just fallen head over heels in love with.
Isn’t that gorgeous!?
I think it was the script stencil on the one wall that really caught my eye but I just love it all. It is simple, elegant, without being fussy or overdone. Simply lovely. Click on the pics to head over to Jamie’s blog to see the full makeover. I just love everything she has done with this.
So, here my design board:
Both wall cabinets will come down. The entire room will get a fresh coat of paint in a lovely soft white. I’m looking through my inspiration board on Pinterest now for ideas on a specific shade (any thoughts from ya’ll are welcome). The focus wall will be stenciled with the script stencil in a pale gray. I cannot currently afford to replace the vanity so it will get a new coat of paint in a sharp black. New fixtures and new countertop for the vanity as well as new pulls for the doors should really freshen it up. The plate mirror will come down and be replaced as well.
I’m still debating the tile for the floor. I could just stencil the vinyl that is there but I really want to put down tile, so I think I am going to save up my pennies to do that. I also want to put in a new toilet with cleaner lines, but that may be the one thing that gets sacrificed for the sake of funds.
Funds are extremely tight right now so the projects will be going slowly. One small project at a time. 🙂
Now I know, that when Mr. Belle sees this, the first thing he will say is “What about storage?” Well, this plan also calls for some nice floating shelves with pretty baskets on them to contain what few items are needed that can’t be stored under the sink . See…got it covered.
Well, there’s my plan. Anyone out there have any thoughts. Have ya’ll done a half bath update recently? I would love to hear any stories you have tell of the ups and downs you encountered.
Until next time. I’ll see you on the porch.
